3 Characteristics of a Great Prospect

So you’re starting to build your network marketing business. . .

Or maybe you’ve been at it for a while with little success.

Either way, there are 3 characteristics that will almost always let you know if someone is a great prospect for your business or not.

Good Attitude

I know it’s cliche, but people with a bad attitude stick out like a sore thumb.

If you’re talking to someone and they tell you how awful they feel or about the driver that cut them off, most likely they’re not a great prospect.

Or if they ask “is this one of those pyramid things?”, it’s probably best to end the conversation right then . . .

You shouldn’t have to get into explaining the difference between network marketing and a pyramid scheme.

And sometimes it isn’t what someone says to you, but how they say it that makes a difference . . .

People who like to complain about the good things that happen to them are usually going to have an overall bad attitude too.

And I’ve found that more often than not, people with a bad attitude about one thing are going to have a bad attitude about everything.

Learn to be picky about who you work with . . .

You only have so much time in a day. Work with people who deserve that time.

A Desire to Improve Their Life

So you’re talking to someone and, wow, they have a good attitude . . . What now?

Next, you have to find out if they have a desire to improve their life.

Note that I said a “desire” to improve their life, not a “need” to improve their life.

Most people need to improve their life . . .But they don’t have the desire to actually do anything about it.

There’s a great related saying about finding customers . . .

–>Everyone NEEDS what you’re selling, but not everyone WANTS what you’re selling. Your job is to work with the people who want it, not to try and convince people who aren’t interested that they need it.<–

People who don’t have that desire to improve their life aren’t going to be a great prospect . . .

They might have a good attitude, but they’re happy where they are in life.


OK . . . Now you’re 2 for 2.

You’ve found someone who not only has a good attitude, but they also have a desire to improve their life.

Here’s the last hurdle . . . Are they coachable?

There’s lot’s of people out there who have a good attitude and a desire to improve their life, but they aren’t open to being coached.

Instead they need to be right all the time. And people who need to be right don’t like to get coached.

I’m sure you’ve run into someone like this before . . . Lot’s of times we call them “family”.

They aren’t going to be great prospects for your business . . .

You’ll end up being so frustrated trying to work with someone like that, you might want to quit!

Ultimately, if you’re not coachable, you’re not going to succeed in Network Marketing . . . Or anything.

When was the last time you heard of a professional golfer reaching the Masters or a professional football team making it to the Super Bowl . . . without a coach?

So why would you think that as a Professional Network Marketer you could reach the Top Earner status in your company without coaching?
